Under the native forest of the Bensa district, sits Bekele Belachew's 6ha farm. Bekele grows two varieties, 74158 and 74160, classified from wild plants in the Metu-Bishari forest by the Jimma research centre. These two varieties are widely used in Ethiopia, prized for their high yield alongside their pronounced citrus and floral notes. Natural processing of the cherry is a tradition for small producers in Ethiopia, and all the work is carried out by Bekele, his wife and six children. This is our second single farm lot from Ethiopia this year, and we're extremely excited to release it. An intense aroma of blueberry pancakes hits as soon as the coffee is ground. This transcends into the cup, bringing a rich blueberry sweetness. Lemon verbena follows this, bringing its own sweetness and balancing acidity. However brewed, this coffee brings a juicy cup that fills the mouth.
