The Gitwe washing station sits at a very high altitude, surrounded by green hills and the volcanic shores of Lake Kivu. This, plus the hardwork of the 800 farmers who deliver crop to the station, is the reason for the high quality of this coffee. Cherries are first floated to separate any defects, before being dried for up to 30 days with regular turning and night time coverage. What is initially apparent about this coffee is its sweetness, akin to that of strawberry candy. This is offset by a sharp grapefruit and passionfruit acidity, with a wine-like mouthfeel, creating a refreshing and moreish cup. Perfect for filter, be it hot or iced.
