Taferi Kela

This community lot from Taferi Kela represents a group of about 80 community farmers who live near Bette Buna's Taferi Kela washing station. The farmers either deliver harvested coffee cherries to the station, or Bette Buna provides collection for farmers located further away. All the farmers who contribute to this lot are part of Bette Buna's farmer program, through which they receive support and training throughout the year.

PROCESSING

Cherries that have been harvested are sorted using a flotation method when they arrive at the Taferi Kela washing station. The cherries are then pulped and fermented for 48-72 hours in order to remove the mucilage. After that, the parchment is soaked for 12 hours before being dried on raised drying beds, which takes approximately 14 days to reach the ideal moisture levels.

Sourced through Ally Coffee. Beginning in 2013 in Brazil, Ally has expanded to source from multiple origins. Ally sourced this community lot from Bette Buna, a vertically integrated coffee company founded by Dawit and Hester Syoum-Westerveld in 2019.
