The water used at Karogoto Factory is sourced from the nearby river Tegu and there are four soaking pits to purify and recycle the water used in processing. Farmers are provided with cash advances in order to pay for the year's school fees and for farm investments, and Karogoto provide annual training to each of their members.

buying coffee through the nairobi exchange

Coffee is sold in Kenya in two main ways: either by auction at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange, or through direct sales, often called “Second Window.” The majority of coffee is sold via auction since the system was established in the 1930s. Since then it’s evolved from traditional “open-outcry” bidding on the market floor to a largely silent system, with an electric trigger for each trader to hit during bidding. This represents new challenges to buyers as through this system, prices of highly sought-after coffees can soar, as buyers scramble to outbid each other on the coffees that are available each week.
