Mayra Solís
story
This coffee is produced by Mayra Solís and her 3 children at their micromill Alto El Vapor. The farm is one of the highest-elevation farms in the Tarrazú region, placed amongst the Santa María de Dota highlands 2,000-2,100 masl. Alongside growing coffee, the farm produces bananas, citrus fruits and a variety of vegtables. Around 90% of the farm is protected natural areas, home to native flora and fauna as well as a natural spring that supplies water to the local community. This female-lead farm partners with Bean Voyage, a program supporting women farmers across the value chain, by training, seed funding, and market access.
PROCESSING
This underwent a Anaerobic Natural Process. Cherries are first sorted to remove defective and damaged cherries. The cherry then goes through an anaerobic fermentation stage in sealed containers and bags, after which the cherries are dried on raised beds, rotated constantly to ensure even drying, depending on the weather this process can take from 30-40 days.TRACEABILITY
Sourced from Cafe Imports who in collaboration with their import-export partner Oxcart Coffee; founded in 2018, look to build supportive and consistent relationships with the coffee growing community at origin. The Oxcart office works with just over 15 micromills, not only looking to support increasing quality but offer resources for local producers by hosting open cupping, consultations and education.
